AGENT PROFILE
A lifelong central Pennsylvanian who has sold commercial and residential real estate for more than 30 years, Jim Koury, RSR, REALTORS®'s CEO, has been involved in the sale of hundreds of homes and commercial properties throughout the midstate.
Jim mastered the art of the deal with the same intelligence and drive that almost landed him in med school, and the same grit and work ethic that earned him a coveted place in Gettysburg College's Hall of Fame for golf.
In his younger days, Jim aspired to become a doctor like his dad, but after his father succumbed to a heart attack at an early age while Jim was still in college, he questioned what career path he wanted to take. When a former patient of his dad's suggested he get his real estate license, Jim thought "It can't hurt."
It was love at first sale - and the field loved him back. Jim repeatedly earned awards as a leading producer, and that success has never waned.
Jim's career was sidelined briefly by a spinal cord injury in 2000, but he returned to the field as a hall of fame RSR agent, with his colleagues often serving as his legs.
Now approaching his 21st year with RSR, Jim emerged as a top producer every year and was named a Partner in 2007. The ability to do both residential and commercial real estate assignments was paramount in his decision to accept a share of the company and work his way to being named CEO in 2019.
Jim embraces the openness and collegiality of RSR, where agents reject outright the cutthroat attitude of many competitors. He was also attracted to RSR's family atmosphere and the trustworthy and transparent way they handle business.
A natural "people person" who recognizes that every contact is a potential client, Jim is described by colleagues as well-organized, highly motivated and detail-oriented, with a strong follow-through and a refreshing, "Tell it like it is" attitude appreciated by clients.
His sales philosophy mirrors the golden rule: "Treat your neighbors as you would want to be treated."
From his vantage point in a wheelchair, Jim knows that he looks at the world a little differently -- and his world view has made him a real estate "master" and a true client advocate.
Jim is married to his high school sweetheart, Joanie, and together they have cheered for their two sons through many a summer baseball game. Firstborn Jimmy is a Penn State grad who joined his dad at RSR in 2009. Son Jeffrey also joined RSR after graduating from Penn State in 2013.
"Working together with both my sons has been quite the joy," Jim says.
Most days, Jim can be found at this desk, working long, unpredictable hours.
Jim's sales portfolio includes a virtual "who's who" of builders and buildings, including Consolidated Properties; Szeles Real Estate Development Company; Charter Homes; Classic Communities; Triple Crown; Union Deposit Corporation; Vartan Group; Mike Murphy Rentals; Catholic Diocese of Harrisburg; Holy Spirit Health System; and DeSanto Realty Group.
In his spare time, he swims at Lower Paxton Twp.'s Friendship Center and serves on the board of Holy Spirit Hospital, in the state, national and Greater Harrisburg Association of Realtors, the West Shore Chamber of Commerce, the Harrisburg YMCA, Gaudenzia, Rutherford Youth Club and the Market Square Presbyterian Church.
