Bill Rothman's Profile

William Franklin Rothman (Central Dauphin High School Class of 1959) was born November 4, 1941, to George and Dorothy Rothman in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. He was raised on his family’s 155-acre farm in Lower Paxton Township and attended Hainlen Elementary School (a four-room schoolhouse) and Lower Paxton Middle School before entering Central Dauphin High School.

At CD, Bill played football, including on the undefeated 1958 team, participated in Key Club, and competed in track and field. After graduation, he enrolled at The Pennsylvania State University, earning a business degree in 1963 with a focus on real estate. During his senior year he met Susannah “Sue” Jamieson on a blind date; the couple married in 1964 and began their life together in the Harrisburg area.

Bill obtained his real estate license in 1962 and began his career with Nafzinger Real Estate while still a student at Penn State. After college, Bill began building his professional career, including serving in the U.S. Army for six years. He co-founded Rothman & Schubert Real Estate in 1970 with Charles “Chuck” Schubert. The firm later became Rothman, Schubert & Reed, REALTORS® (1975) and RSR REALTORS, LLC (1989). Today, Bill remains a partner and principal of RSR, one of central Pennsylvania’s largest locally owned and managed real estate companies, providing residential and commercial brokerage, appraisal, and related real estate services. Throughout his career, he has been recognized as a top-producing broker in the region.

Over more than five decades, Bill has combined professional leadership with deep civic involvement. He was instrumental in the creation of the first multiple listing service (MLS) in the area, a move that revolutionized access to home information for all local real estate agents.

His community service has included leadership roles with the Greater Harrisburg Board/Association of REALTORS®, the West Shore Chamber of Commerce, the Harrisburg Area YMCA, and he helped to found the Capital Region Economic Development Corporation (CREDC). In recognition of his contributions to the profession, he was named Greater Harrisburg Association of REALTORS® “REALTOR® of the Year” (1976) and inducted into the Association’s Hall of Fame (2011).

Valuing the opportunities that can be created through education, Bill and Sue endowed scholarships at Penn State, Shippensburg University, Messiah College and Harrisburg Area Community College.  In addition, Bill is long-time supporter of the Boys and Girls Club of Harrisburg.

In addition to brokerage, Bill is a state-certified general appraiser (certified in 1991) and has built a long track record in appraisal and consulting work for private clients as well as public-sector projects. He has also been active as a developer, completing commercial, retail, office, and residential projects. Notable residential communities associated with his work include Creekstone Manor (Upper Allen Township), Treemont (East Pennsboro Township), Millfording Highlands (Silver Spring Township), and Millfording Preserve (Silver Spring Township).

A lifelong New York Yankees and Penn State Nittany Lions fan, Bill continues to work full-time in real estate. He and Sue are happily married for more than six decades and enjoy a closeness with their family: children Beth, Greg, and Garrett, their spouses, and ten grandchildren.

In 2026, the Central Dauphin High Panther/Ram Foundation recognized Bill with its Distinguished Alumni Award, honoring a lifetime of business leadership and civic service.
